Vespers Artist Talk
May 20th 2022, I opened my very first solo exhibition “Vespers” at Gallery 1720 in Atlanta, GA. This is my Artist talk from that night.
More on Vespers:
The word "vesper" is found in an ancient tradition of liturgies. Vespers, or Evensong, is a service held every day, at the end of the day, to refocus and reflect on the day's work. This collection is about capturing this same spirit of ancient liturgical vespers.
In my series Vespers, I count the hours of the day in a variety of natural landscapes to re-connect with contemplation and life in rhythm. My desire is that each piece can speak to a location or setting that serves as a 'visual exhale' to viewers while maintaining the integrity of vivacious life in nature. I aim to accomplish this through employing hyper-saturated hues as a nod to neo-fauvism techniques.
